Born in Rome in 1975, after scientific studies and two years of
political sciences, attends a three years master in professional
photography in Rome. In 2002, while still studying, for the FAO
program "Food for the cities" goes for the first time in Africa for
two weeks in Ethiopia. Shortly after the end of the master he leaves
for Africa again: in the fall of 2002 as a free lance, he works in
South Africa on Landless people during the world summit on sustainable
development and on a reportage in Soweto. Then in Rwanda and in Congo
covering the withdraw of the Rwandan troops from Congo and "gacaca"
processes in Rwanda. In the spring of 2003, after a travel reportage
in Portugal he is in Africa again, this time in Algeria, where he
stays for four months, starting a collaboration with the agency
Galbe.com, reporting the conditions of the Casbah in Algiers and daily
life in the Sahara desert. Because of accreditation problems he is
forced to leave the north African country in August 2003. In September
2003 he starts working for Associated Press as correspondent from the
Great Lakes region. He lived in Kigali, Rwanda for four and half years
covering not only the thousand hills country but also war torn Congo,
Burundi, Uganda and Kenya. Since June 1, 2008, he is based in Nairobi,
Kenya. Some of his works have been published by The New York Times,
Time Magazine, The Times, The Guardian and The Guardian weekly,
Liberation, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, The Washington Post and others. He
loves getting around with motorbike and traveled so far through
Rwanda, Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia,
South Africa and Botswana. He is planning a world wide journey with a
motorbike and looking for sponsors to cover some expenses and publish
a book with travel photos from the trip. |
